After graduating from the University of Maryland in December of 2000 with a B.S. in Public Health/Community Health Education, Kendra started her professional career as a territory manager for Ortho-McNeil – the women’s health division of Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals. Kendra remained in her position for 6 years, earning numerous top sales awards during her tenure. She was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) after the birth of her first child. Using the time away from her career while striving to learn about her illness, she focused on regaining her strength and determination through ways that she knew were best to care for herself. Kendra’s desire to help the EDS community, coupled with her education in public health, experience working in medical device and pharmaceutical sales led her to speak about Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and its related comorbidities from a patient’s perspective to several organizations, coordinate fundraisers to promote EDS awareness and support EDS non-profit organizations, and launch Strength/Flexibility/Health/EDS.com– a digital wellness magazine for those striving for “strength, flexibility, and health,” while living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and related chronic medical conditions.
Kendra served as the volunteer coordinator for the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation HelpLine(recently renamed The Ehlers-Danlos Society) for close to 5 years. It was through Kendra’s life and professional experiences, that she first founded Mediterina Medical Solutions, LLC, and then EDS Wellness, Inc. EDS Wellness a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded on developing patient health education programs, materials and digital and print resources on restoring function and living well with hypermobility disorders and related conditions. Other large components of EDS Wellness’ mission and vision are fostering professional and organizational collaboration and facilitating professional education and continuing medical education activities for healthcare professionals, A few of EDS Wellness’ previous projects are – Wellapalooza Integrative Health and Wellness Conferences (& retreats!), Moving Naturally with Hypermobility Seminars, “Just 5 Minutes,” and the EDS Ride for a Cause. Kendra lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband of 15 years, her 3 children, 2 pups, and has fulfilled her childhood dream of living near her sister (and the rest of her family) in an area they collectively termed “Neilsenville.” Other than having a passion for her work in the medical field, as well as for fitness, health, and nutrition; Kendra is closet apple genius, avid first-adopter of all things health & fitness tech related, photographer, traveler, and reader. Most importantly, she is eagerly working on and excited to leap into the next chapter of life – both personally and professionally. Kendra and her family are actively looking for new home, in an area that helps facilitate daily movement and promotes a more natural lifestyle, outside in nature and including chickens — one that her little family has been longing to achieve.
